Medusa is born within matter, before any narration. It is a raw smoothed bas-relief that emerges as a primordial presence, without mediation, without superstructures. The figure does not present itself as an image to decode, but as a force to be perceived.
The surface is alive, crossed by direct gesture and time. The personal Smussato technique remains exposed, readable, physical. Every mark is allowed to emerge, every irregularity becomes language. Nothing is corrected, nothing is softened.
Medusa is not an illustrated myth, but embodied energy. A figure that holds and releases, guarding a silent tension. The gaze does not petrify: it passes through. The presence does not invade: it remains.
Matter builds the face and body as if they had surfaced from a deep seabed, from an ancient layer. The work of art invites a slow encounter, a vision that does not consume but listens. Here, form does not tell a story, but a condition.
This raw version is the origin of Medusa. The point where the artwork begins, before any possible transformation. A bas-relief that holds strength, silence, and memory, suspended between presence and revelation.
Medusa is born in matter, where strength needs no explanation. When matter speaks, myth becomes presence. www.michelafabeniart.com
