Smussato : Technique and Philosophy

Smussato is more than a technque: it is gesture, matter, and vision.

into unique bas-reliefs, and how this philosophy becomes both art and life.

Smussato is not just an artistic technique.

It is a gesture, a language, a way of seeing

and feeling matter. It is the signature,

and vision of Michela Fabeni, a vision of living art.

Through Smussato, each bas-relief takes shape in

a balance of light, depth, and movement.

Michela Fabeni works with bare hands and a

palette knife, maintaining a direct and authentic

connection with the material.

My research is based on organic materials and

natural binders, developed through a personal

method and an exclusive process.

I prepare my own mixtures through slow, controlled

phases of transformation and successive layering.

Air and sunlight naturally take part in the maturation

and strengthening of the material, enhancing its

structure and depth.

The material transforms under my hands, yet the core

of the process remains unique and personal,

an integral part of her artistic identity.
Each work expresses a dialogue between matter and

light, between emotion and form.

" To smooth means to lighten excess, soften roughness,

remove what is unnecessary

in order to reveal the essence", says Michela Fabeni.

Smussato is not limited to a technical gesture; it is also

a philosophy of life.

To smooth means to lighten excess, soften roughness,

remove what is unnecessary

in order to reveal the essence.

Smussato is a signature.
Smussato is identity.
