LIGHT IN CONTEMPORARY ART – Colour, Forms and Depth in Michela Fabeni's Bas-Reliefs | Three-dimensional Bas-reliefs | Gold Leaf Art

Light is not merely an element that illuminates an artwork: it is an active component of its
expression.
In Michela Fabeni's artistic research, light, colour and matter establish a dynamic relationship through which surfaces acquire depth, forms reveal new configurations and relief continuously transforms the viewer's perception.
Three-dimensionality allows light to interact with the different elevations and recesses of the surface, generating luminous variations, reflections and shadows. The artwork changes according to its surroundings and the observer's viewpoint, offering a visual experience that is never entirely the same.
Colour contributes to defining the expressive identity of each composition. Light tones, ivory nuances, whites and golden surfaces create a language in which light also acquires symbolic meaning.
Gold, in particular, evokes ideas of origin, energy, preciousness and continuity. White and ivory tones suggest purity, openness and the possibility of rebirth. Each chromatic choice contributes to a meaning that goes beyond mere decoration.
Light thus becomes a presence that reveals, transforms and connects the elements of the artwork.
In my creations, the relationship between matter, colour and luminosity is an integral part of my artistic research: a journey in which form is never merely what appears, but what continues to reveal itself through light.
