The philosophy of Smussato originates from a reflection on the relationship between matter, experience and transformation. In Michela Fabeni's artistic research, smoothing does not simply mean modifying a surface; it gives the artistic gesture a deeper meaning: transforming roughness, seeking balance and recognising the potential for evolution within matter. | Contemporary Bas-reliefs | Michela Fabeni Art Gallery

The palette knife becomes an instrument of dialogue with the material. The gesture cuts, shapes, removes and guides the form towards a new expression. It is a continuous exchange between intervention and listening, strength and delicacy, what emerges and what remains concealed.

The philosophy of Smussato also finds a symbolic correspondence in human experience. Life moves through us with its irregularities, contradictions and transformations. Smoothing therefore becomes a metaphor for our inner journey: not erasing who we have been, but transforming our experiences into awareness.

In Michela Fabeni's works, matter is not merely an expressive medium; it is the place where thought takes shape. The bas-relief becomes a tangible testimony to a process that brings together craftsmanship, sensitivity and inner exploration.

Smussato is not simply a technique. It is a vision of life, a way of relating to matter and reconnecting with one's own essence.
