Michela Fabeni Art Gallery | Leaf Woman | Raw Textured Bas-Relief on Canvas Between Nature, Renewal, and Sacredness

Leaf Woman is a raw white bas-relief in which I explore a profound connection between the human being and nature. The work emerges from direct contact with matter, shaped with a palette knife and organic materials to create a living, essential, and primordial presence.

The female figure appears as a sinuous, almost vegetal form. She is not separated from her environment but merges with it, embodying a deep harmony between body and nature, between human identity and natural rhythm. In this fusion, I recognize a shared origin—an ancestral bond that transcends time.

The fluid, organic lines recall the elegance of Art Nouveau, yet the language moves beyond historical reference. Matter takes center stage, building an intense three-dimensionality that makes the work contemporary, vital, and rooted in the present. The surface does not describe; it suggests. It does not represent; it evokes.

Leaf Woman is a symbol of transformation and regeneration. It speaks of rebirth and resilience, of natural cycles that endlessly renew themselves. In its chromatic essentiality, the raw white becomes a sacred space—a place of silence and listening, a reminder of the eternity of the human spirit.

This work is a metaphor for vulnerability and strength. A hymn to the fusion of human and divine, of the temporary and the immortal. In contemplating it, a call to one’s roots emerges—an invitation to be embraced by nature and rediscover authentic beauty. We are leaves of an eternal tree: bound to the earth, yet always reaching toward the sky.
