Meeting What We Feel | Michela Fabeni Art Gallery | Contemporary Bas-Reliefs, Matter and Identity

We meet what we feel. And matter becomes skin, memory, truth.

Contemporary bas-reliefs as inner landscapes to be crossed. In my work, matter does not represent: it remembers.

It is a sensitive archive, a place where the body deposits what cannot be put into words. The gesture is born from listening, not from the intention to construct an image.

Hand, spatula, and surface enter a direct, physical, necessary relationship. It is within this contact that the artwork takes form, when matter responds.

My contemporary bas-reliefs inhabit a space of deep connection: between body and matter, between what supports and what is supported.

They do not depict a scene, but a shared, universal experience. The heart, in my research, is not an emotional or decorative symbol.

It is a vital structure, a point of pressure, a place of fracture. It pulses even when exposed, even when its cracks are visible. Not as weakness, but as truth. The body is not an object to observe, but a measure.

It is presence, weight, surrender. It crosses matter and is crossed by it, without distance. My art is born at this essential point: when matter ceases to be surface and becomes skin, memory, shared truth.

Because what we touch shapes us. And what supports us is often made of the very matter we carry on our skin.
